Tracking Inspection Status
How to schedule and track inspections throughout your build.
When Inspections Happen
Inspections are required at specific points during construction:
- **Foundation** — After footings and before pouring
- **Framing** — After structure is complete, before closing walls
- **Rough-In** — Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections before drywall
- **Insulation** — After installation, before drywall
- **Final** — Complete inspection before certificate of occupancy
Scheduling Inspections
Contact your local building department to schedule each inspection. Most departments require 24-48 hours advance notice.
What Happens if You Fail?
If an inspection reveals issues:
1. The inspector will note what needs to be corrected
2. Fix the issues
3. Schedule a re-inspection
4. Pass the re-inspection before proceeding
> WARNING: Never proceed with the next phase of construction before passing the required inspection. Work done over uninspected work may need to be torn out.
