Common Inspection Types

Overview of standard construction inspections and what inspectors look for.

Foundation Inspection

The inspector verifies:
- Footing dimensions match approved plans
- Rebar placement and spacing is correct
- Soil bearing capacity is adequate
- Drainage and waterproofing preparations are in place

Framing Inspection

The inspector verifies:
- Wall, floor, and roof framing match structural plans
- Proper fastener types and spacing
- Shear walls and hold-downs are correctly installed
- Window and door headers are properly sized

Rough-In Inspections

Separate inspections for each trade:
- **Electrical** — Wire sizing, box placement, grounding, GFCI protection
- **Plumbing** — Pipe sizing, slope, venting, pressure tests
- **HVAC** — Duct sizing, equipment ratings, ventilation

Final Inspection

The comprehensive final walk-through covers everything from smoke detectors to stair railings.
