Creating an Allowance
Step-by-step guide to linking an allowance to a budget line item, setting scope, and naming.
How to Create an Allowance
1. Navigate to the **Allowances** page
2. Click **New Allowance**
3. Select the **budget line item** this allowance is linked to
4. Enter a descriptive **name** (e.g., "Master Bath Tile")
5. Choose the **scope type** — Materials Only or Materials + Installation
6. Optionally assign a **room** and **category**
7. Click **Save**
Scope Types
- **Materials Only** — The allowance covers just the cost of the product. Labor is budgeted separately.
- **Materials + Installation** — The allowance covers both the product and its installation cost.
> TIP: Link every allowance to its corresponding budget line item. This creates the connection between your product selections and your overall budget, showing you variance in real-time.
What Happens Next
Once your allowance is created, start adding product selections to compare options and prices.
