Understanding Roles & Permissions

Learn about the four project roles in OwnerDraw — Owner, Partner, Banker, and Collaborator — and what each role can access.

Overview

OwnerDraw supports four distinct roles so you can collaborate with your build team while keeping full control of your project. Each role has specific permissions that determine what a person can see and do.

The Four Roles

Owner

The **Owner** is the primary account holder — you, the owner-builder. There is exactly **one Owner per project**, and this role is automatically assigned when you create a project.

Owners have **full access** to every feature:
- Create and manage the budget, draws, vendors, and schedule
- Invite and remove team members
- Manage billing and project settings
- Export data and generate reports

> **TIP:** The Owner role cannot be transferred or removed. If you need to change project ownership, contact support.

Partner

The **Partner** role is designed for a spouse, co-investor, or trusted co-builder. Partners have nearly the same access as Owners with a few exceptions.

Partners **can**:
- View and edit the budget, schedule, vendors, and all project data
- Create and manage draws, expenses, and allowances
- View the full activity log

Partners **cannot**:
- Invite or remove team members
- Manage billing or subscription settings
- Change project-level settings

Banker

The **Banker** role gives your construction lender **read-only access** to the financial data they need for draw approvals and loan monitoring.

Bankers **can**:
- View the budget, draw requests, and Schedule of Values (SOV)
- View allowance selections and inspection records
- View the playbook and project documents
- Map SOV line items and manage their own assigned to-dos

Bankers **cannot**:
- Edit the budget or create expenses
- View vendor contact information or manage lien waivers
- Invite team members or change settings

> **TIP:** Giving your banker direct access to OwnerDraw can speed up draw approvals significantly — they can review everything on their own schedule.

Collaborator

The **Collaborator** role is a flexible, configurable role for contractors, designers, inspectors, or anyone else who needs limited access to specific parts of your project.

When you invite a Collaborator, you choose exactly which features they can access and whether they get **read-only** or **read/write** permissions for each feature.

Configurable features include:
- Budget (view only or view + edit)
- Schedule and to-dos
- Vendors and expenses
- Draws and allowances
- Documents and files

Role Comparison Table

| Feature | Owner | Partner | Banker | Collaborator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Full | Full | Read-only | Configurable |
| Draws | Full | Full | Read-only | Configurable |
| Vendors | Full | Full | None | Configurable |
| Schedule | Full | Full | None | Configurable |
| Team Management | Full | None | None | None |
| Settings & Billing | Full | None | None | None |

What Role Should I Assign?

  • **Spouse or co-investor** → Partner
  • **Bank loan officer** → Banker
  • **General contractor** → Collaborator (with budget + schedule access)
  • **Interior designer** → Collaborator (with allowances access)
  • **Inspector** → Collaborator (with read-only access)

> **WARNING:** Be cautious about granting write access to your budget. Only assign Partner or Collaborator-with-edit roles to people you fully trust with your financial data.
